This paper examines how the characters in the TV-series “Six Feet Under”, can be interpreted using Freud’s psychoanalysis in a cinematic and characterological analysis, and which themes that can be derived from this interpretation. This analysis is written with the use of some classic psychoanalytic terms by Sigmund Freud and theoretical material about literature, interpretation and cinematic techniques. Following the analysis and interpretation the paper concludes that combining psychoanalytic terms with theories about literature and cinematic techniques gives a deeper and more profound understanding of the characters. However the psychoanalytic terms can only be used to a limited extent since the characters are fictional, and not real people.
