Student thesis: Bachelor project

Abstract

This project went to investigate representation of non white characters within danish children's literature. This was done through the methods of interview, survey and empirical collection in danish children's literature. The data was then analysed through chosen theory, being orientalism, exotocim by Said, race, whiteness by Mills, and the concept of representation written by Philip Nel. The analysis was parted in three sections, 1. Why is it the niggerdoll who prefers to be naked, 2. Non whites are not necessary for making good stories and finally 3. We crossed out the racist lines. It was found that racial absent or negative representation maintain the social formations of white superiority.
