This study treats how the present-day human being relates to the rite of passage that is funeral. Prominent schools and theories of ritual are accounted for, and more specific theory about rites of passage are clarified, inter alia how rites of passage can be understood, analyzed and interpreted. Anthropological and theological views of funeral are presented, and this results in a discussion of how these two views, the anthropological and theological, can be used in relation to funeral as a rite of passage.
