Abstract

The overall objective of the thesis is to analyse and explain the changes that appear among indigneous people in the interface with external actors in the Ecuadorian Amazon region. It is further obted to obtain a macro-micro image of the interface situation by looking into the interface process in the Amazon supported by a specific case study of the indigenous group, the Huaoranis. The major actors that have been a part of this interface process and elaborated on in the thesis are missionaries, oil companies and tourism, and their significance for the change of geographical spaces, the land use, the people and the communities in the Amazon.
