Abstract

Critical Edge Alliance (CEA) is an organization which seeks to create collaboration between currently seven universities across the globe. The aim is to create an online platform where students and educators can have access to- as well as share social and academic knowledge in a cultural interrelationship. We will therefore provide tools to establish an online intercultural platform. We thus chose to investigate the university culture at Roskilde University (RUC) and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) who are members of the CEA. We will conduct a short-term ethnographic research with focus on social constructivism and intercultural communication. We have constructed four categories namely: student-culture relations, student-media relations, student-teacher relations and student-student relations. These will aid fostering a third culture that will improve intercultural communication on an online platform. The four categories have been used to process and analyse the empirical data that has been collected at TISS and RUC during group discussions and participant observation. We have found that social embeddedness is important to establish a feeling of social connection to create a common goal and motivation.
