This purpose of this project is to investigate the development in purpose paragraphs of the Danish public school system in the welfare state in relation to the school-reforms in 1958, 1975 and 1993. The method is to draw attention to quotes made by members of parliament in the negotiations of the reforms. That way this projects undertakes a close analysis of what the different opinions of the members of parliament was. In addition the project discusses the developments of the development of the phrasing from reform to reform. The project discovers that the development is quite profound. Thus the project discovers that the Danish public school develops from at the reform in 1958 to focus only on the students’ academic skills and evangelic-Lutheran upbringing, to in 1975 to focusing on giving the students the settings in which they themselves could develop their identities, and thereby become happy citizens, who would be able to relate to, and take part in, society. Furthermore the evangelic-Lutheran upbringing had to give way to an upbringing of the students to be democratically orientated and partaking citizens. The public school of 1993 had the same focus, but with even more liberal phrasings.
