In this report we have researched how the genocide in Rwanda occurred and which, if any sociological conditions were at the cause of the genocide. We have also tried to understand why the United Nations efforts to bring and end to the conflict were so limited. We have applied Gregory Stantons theory of 8 stages, Chirot and McCauley typologies and Durkheims theory on social facts. These theories are compared with an overview of Rwandan history. The overviews of Rwandan history are utilized in order to test whether or not we are able to conclude how genocide occurs based on historic events. In order to attain this goal, we have incorporated the history of other genocides. We have used the United Nations Charter on genocide and also DUPIs report on humanitarian intervention.
