Student thesis: Termpaper

This study examines whether or not isolation can lead to personal growth. In order to answer this question we distinguish between loneliness and aloneness. We explain the theory of existential psychotherapist Irvin D. Yalom and on the basis of this examination, we analyze a conducted interview through the theory. Based on the theory, interview and analysis, we discuss the validity of Yalom’s theory. Considering the examination, the analysis and the distinction between the two types of isolation; loneliness and aloneness, we conclude that aloneness can, in some cases and under the right circumstances, help lead to personal growth.
