In this thesis I examine a case study of integrated health promotion. The case study is based on an empirical study of the potential for long-term anchoring of integrated health promotion strategies and community health development in a marginalized area called ‘Gadehavegård’. The thesis analysis is based on certain platforms for health promotion, actors, strategies and practices that together constitute an integrated basis for a health promotion strategy. The theoretical basis for the analysis of health promotion are the so called "Settings approach" and the theory of "community empowerment". Based on my analysis I conclude that the development projects the ‘Sundhed i Gadehavegård’ and the ‘Mennesker Mødes i Gadehavegård’ has facilitated that the local institutions adopts a more strategic and holistic approach to the citizen's overall life situation. A holistic understanding of the citizen's health is in my opinion a major contribution to reducing social inequalities in health. The analysis also shows, however, that there are too a number of challenges associated with working integrated. A long-term effect in the community requires that the actors strive to develop a strongly entrenched approach and strategy for the area, and also focus on improving leadership skills.
