Abstract

In the glorification of Switzerland's vocational education and training system (VET), it often goes unmentioned how much trouble some young people have to overcome before they get an apprenticeship. Classified as "at risk" by education policy, they not only have fewer chances for apprenticeships, they also face teachers and vocational counselors who fundamentally doubt their "readiness" for training. Against this backdrop, my dissertation shows how "at-risk" youth try to resist activating practices in the transition regime: After all, resisting is one of the remaining option to desig one's own trajectory in spite of inequalities.
