Abstract

Democratic enterprises such as cooperatives play key roles in the existing Danish energy system and they have for decades been influential drivers in the transition towards renewable energy. It is estimated that there is a large untapped potential for increasing the production of renewable energy in the democratic sector in the future. This report sheds light on the scale of different forms of democratic energy supply, the patterns of development, and the challenges for increasing existing production or developing new projects in the democratic business sector.
