Abstract
The article reminds upon the methodology of the 1980 study of the German Öko-Institut "Die Energiewende" (Bossel, Krause and Müller-Reissmann) as Florentin Krause had described it in 1981 in the periodical of Bund demokratischer Wissenschaftler stressing the importance of a systemic technology factor in order to deconstruct the specter of rising energy demand as the simple product of the twin rising factors of population figures and affluence. The concept of energy service demand makes it possible to meet service demand more rationally, and thus avoid big scale supply options as nuclear facilities and paving the way for renewables. A critical approach to renewable energy is recommended in order to avoid a new run into atmospheric burning of wood. The wisdom of the 2006 Stern report concluding that early action against global warming can pay is related to the situation 2o years earlier, when a peace dividend was in the making.
