Abstract
This article present part of a collaborative work by three members of the Balai citoyen, Cheickna YARANANGORE, Ismaël COMPAORÉ, Seydou BONI and by Heidi Bojsen, associate professor at Roskilde University, Denmark. In this study we have decided to focus on the dialogue between the Balai and its « basis ». We will thus present different initiatives made the Balai citoyen in order to establish such a dialogue with different social groups between 2013 and 2016. We are particularly interested in processes of subjectivity and identity of individual and collective subjects and we will be referring to the works of Daniel CÉFAÏ and to Charles Tilly’s characterizations of social movements, in particular the criteria of dignity, unity, number and engagement in their self-perception.
The conditions of possibility meaning from contemporary and past social contexts will be used in this analysis of the report between the movement and its basis, analysis, which also informs us about the formation of the movement, its aspiration and its role models. While referring to source material such as inquiries, internal reports, observation notes and research from Burkinabè and foreign scholars, yet without pretending being able to formulate any definition conclusions on event which is still in happening, the authors present different central strategies, practices and conceptualisations that may help us to understand the various positions of engagement and concernement that are produced around and within the movement.
