Kompetenceudvikling for medarbejdere i demensplejen: Viden tabt i transfer mellem modsatrettede logikker

Introduction: Person-centered dementia care is a political goal. A Danish region developed a competence development program for nurses and auxiliary nurses, building on Kittwood (1997). A principle of transfer was applied.
Objectives: To illuminate potentials and barriers for learning person-centered care in dementia care and to examine transfer principles and logics in teaching and practice.
Theory: Transfer theory (Wahlgren and Aarkrog, 2013) and Mol’s theory of logics in care work (2008).
Methodology: Qualitative methods: interviews, classroom and practice observations and hermeneutical analysis.
Findings: Overarching theme: A gap existed between learned ideals and practice, containing two subthemes: 1) enthusiasm for new knowledge and 2) having the knowledge - but not the opportunity. Participants learned a social-pedagogical approach, but experienced work regulations as hindrances.
Conclusion: Person-centered dementia care requires competence development. The logic of care collides with a logic of effectiveness. New knowledge was lost in the transference between courses and practice.
