Abstract
Egypt has historically been an important mediator in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and now Egypt is once again playing a decisive role, partly because of the only land border with Gaza besides Israel, and partly as a mediator of the West, among other things, for the Israeli hostages. However, domestic challenges lurk and the al-Sisi regime fears that the anger currently directed by the population at the West and Israel could quickly turn the arrow against the regime itself.
