Abstract
Introducing to theories of the interaction between globalisation, pedagogy and youth, this chapter discusses education reforms at a policy as well as at a classroom level. Taking point of departure in school ethnographies in secondary schools in Vietnam, Zambia and Hanoi, the article analyses how Western perceptions on the educated person affect the shaping of selves among young students in secondary schools in Hanoi, Recife and Lusaka
