Abstract

Within an overall framework of the age-arrangement approach, this chapter analyses how rapidly increasing retirement ages intersect with discursive changes. The chapter shows that a transition from early- to late-exit discourses have trickled down from international organizations to national agencies, and the main findings are that changing practices of older workers in Denmark, Germany and the UK are recursively related to a transition from discourses favouring early exit/retirement to discourses where early exit/retirement is deemed inappropriate.
