Abstract
The article presents the argument that many highly socialized policies of European welfare states promote economic flexibility. The author maintains that the Scandinavian countries (and Denmark in particular) with their extensive and generous welfare allotments, employ policies to eliminate poverty and marginalization and to make service sector work available to youth, the elderly, and mothers.
