Abstract
This essay looks at the cross between archetypal images and symbolic language as expressed in the iconography of tarot cards ranging from the Renaissance period to the turn of the 20th century. It is also an example of how the idea of agency can be both analyzed and applied simultaneously in textual readings that rely entirely on visual tools.
