Project Details
Description
This project analyzes the Palestinian liberation movement in its global encounters with the New Left, from the 1967 Six-Day War to the PLO’s exit from Beirut in 1982. The aim is to understand the level of exchange, conversation, and mutual impact, and to what extent a global political imagination developed. The results can help us reassess the way different local struggles shaped a global political movement. Three project researchers with Arabic, Spanish and Scandinavian language skills will examine the entanglement of people and ideas in Scandinavia, Latin America, and Palestinian camps in Lebanon and Jordan by looking at party archives, memoirs, newspapers, and by interviewing former militants. Through cooperation with international partners, the project will use the material to produce a visual mapping of networks as the basis for reconstructing detailed social histories of New Left activists and their reciprocal relations across three continents.
