Description

This project explores the formation of children as green transition stakeholders and agents (i.e.
their green transition citizenship), focusing on children in grades 5‒7. The overall research question
is: How can the children’s green transition citizenship be enhanced? The research is organized in
three subprojects (SPs). SP-A examines children’s cross-spatial green transition learning and
agency through a mixed methods study. SP-B explores their environmental and green transition
ideas, visions and worries through future workshops. The findings from SPs A and B form the basis
for focus groups with adult stakeholders, SP-C exploring challenges and possibilities for (the
facilitation of) children’s green transition citizenship. Theoretically, we draw on and further develop
the concept of green transitionscapes, which we initially define as related structures of different
kinds, which evolve as the child explores them and where children become green transition
citizens.

Projektet undersøger børns oplevelser, læring og måder at forholde sig til klimakrisen. Viden om
dette er afgørende for en succesfuld og demokratisk grøn omstilling. Børn påvirker den grønne
omstilling gennem egen adfærd og forbrug, og ved at påvirke andre (hinanden og forældre).
International forskning viser, at børn i høj grad påvirkes negativt af, hvordan medierne portrætterer
klimakrisen mens de i mindre grad påvirkes af undervisning om emnet i skolen. Konsekvensen kan
være mistrivsel (klima-angst) og at de mister tillid og motivation for grøn omstilling, herunder for at
uddanne sig inden for feltet. Der er brug for forskning om engagerende og motiverende
undervisning, der kan give børnene håb samt motivere og kvalificerer dem ift grøn omstilling. I
Danmark har vi skoler og et stort projekt støttet af innovationsfonden, der netop arbejder med den
type undervisning. Der mangler imidlertid forskning om, hvordan børns læring, motivation,
handlekompetence og ejerskab bliver til i samspillet mellem medier, skoleundervisning og
familieliv. I dette projekt undersøger vi netop dette. Projektet omfatter en
spørgeskemaundersøgelse med 1500 børn i 5.-7. klasse, interview og deltagende observation,
hvor forskerne følger 24 børn (fra fire skoler, der har forskellige tilgange til undervisning i klima og
grøn omstilling), workshops med 60 børn samt fokusgruppeinterview med lærere, forældre og
andre interessenter.
