Personal profile

Research

My research is on the economics and the political economy of industrial policy and global value chain (GVC) participation. In my PhD project, I am doing theoretical and analytical work on the relationship between catch-up industrialization and GVC participation, and how industrial policy can ensure that developmental benefits are derived from GVC participation in low- and middle-income countries. I am conducting empirical work on the South African automotive industry, which includes data collection on the multinational lead firms governing the value chain, on the locally owned firms involved in the value chain and their technological capabilities, and on the linkages from the automotive industry to other industrial sectors in the South African economy.

Prior to my PhD at Roskilde University, I have worked for GIZ in Nigeria and Botswana on private sector development and technical & vocational education and training. I am interested in contributing to better coordination between development implementation practice and current academic research.
