Research

My main areas of expertise are in the fields of aquatic ecology and ecotoxicology. My specific research interests include ecological risk assessment and ecotoxicology of aquatic sedimentary systems. In particular I am working with both theoretical and empirical approaches for linking the effects of toxicants on individuals to impacts at the population level. I am also doing research into the fate and effects of, particularly hydrophobic, toxic chemicals in sediments with an aim toward understanding the factors controlling contaminant uptake and metabolism by biota - issues that are essential for the development of more appropriate sediment quality criteria for use in risk assessment.
