My research focuses on group strategizing and decision making in complex and uncertain situations particularly in the context of food production and distribution, climate change, and human health. I am interested in analysing the process of strategizing and decision making, and the links to outcomes. I am particularly interested in how aspects of strategizing and decision making evolve over time, and how such aspects lead to outcomes. The aspects of strategizing and decision making comprise: conversations, knowledge creation, sense-making, the use of artefacts (e.g. models, flipcharts, post-it notes, documents, and PowerPoint), learning and emotions, as well as behavioural and conversational tactics, amongst others. To identify how those aspects evolve, and how they lead to outcomes I carry out qualitative, systematic and fine-grained analysis of data from group interactions (e.g. meetings), interviews and documents.
Research focus:
- Strategy as something that people 'do' (Strategy-as-Practice)
- Strategy as a process
- Strategy as an emergent pattern
- Strategy discourse
- Teams of middle and top-managers
- Participation
