Personal profile
Research
I am a PhD researcher who studies how soil pollutants impact the establishment of antibiotic resistance in natural environments. My research integrates field sampling, analytical chemistry, metagenomics, and multi-omics techniques to better understand how chemical stressors like metals and other pollutants influence microbial community structure and resistance development. I also work with the RUC proteomics facility to develop workflows for environmental protein analysis.
My prior research experience includes medical microbiology. During my MSc, I worked on whole-genome sequencing and characterisation of Escherichia coli isolates from ulcerative colitis patients, which included Oxford Nanopore sequencing, virulome and resistome profiling, functional toxin tests, AlphaFold modeling, and DDA LC-MS/MS proteomics. I also worked on a Salmonella mice infection project that tested nanobody-based therapies. In addition, I have practical expertise with a variety of molecular and microbiological procedures, such as bacterial cultivation, growth optimization, DNA/RNA extraction, plasmid biology, recombinant expression, protein assays, and R data analysis.
