Personal profile

Research

My research takes an interdisciplinary approach exploring how the green transition can be made more democratic and socially sustainable, and how urban development processes can counter segregation while strengthening social cohesion. I work at the intersection of philosophy, anthropology, sociology, critical urban studies, and human geography, with a particular focus on how forms of organizing, institutions, and grassroots initiatives can foster participation, inclusion, and resilience.

Empirically, my work engages municipalities, non-profit housing sectors, and civil society actors, analysing how infrastructures of participation shape citizens’ everyday lives while addressing challenges such as gentrification, climate change, and biodiversity crises. My current postdoctoral project investigates how municipalities, housing organizations, and civil society collaborate to develop socially sustainable cities.

At Roskilde Universitet, I primarily teach and supervise within the Master’s programme Nordic Urban Planning Studies (NUPS). My teaching engages themes such as the green transition, the Anthropocene and Capitalocene, ecofeminism, urban metabolism, dark ecology, the non-profit housing sector, resident democracy, eco-societal transformation, democratic legitimacy, resilience, commons and commoning, democratic innovation, and infrastructures of organizing and governance. Methodologically, I particularly draw on fieldwork, qualitative interviews, document analysis, photo-elicitation, contemporary critical theory and phenomenology, affirmative genealogy, and sensory ethnography.

Beyond conventional classroom settings, I organize field-based learning processes in which students engage directly with practical initiatives aimed at creating more just and sustainable urban futures. These include urban commons and community garden projects in Copenhagen, such as Øens Have at Refshaleøen, Fælleshaven in Tingbjerg, and Vestvolden.

I am also coordinator of the CBS research group ORGADIVA - Organizing Democracy, Inclusion, and Diversity
