Research

Ali Rıza Taşkale is an External Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University. Before joining Roskilde University, he held positions at Near East University in Northern Cyprus and Hacettepe University in Turkey. His research interests include speculative finance and speculative fiction, the politics of Silicon Valley, transformations in contemporary capitalism, and alternative futures.

His work has been published in internationally reputable journals such as Science as Culture, Urban Studies, Utopian Studies, Distinktion, Los Angeles Review of Books, Thesis Eleven, Rethinking Marxism, Northern Lights, New Political Science, Contemporary Political Theory, Third Text, Theory, Culture & Society, and Journal for Cultural Research, as well as in several edited volumes. His book, Post-Politics in Context, was published by Routledge in 2016. His forthcoming book, Fictional Worlds and Financial Realities in Speculative Literature and Film, will appear in the Palgrave Studies in Science and Popular Culture series.

He serves on the editorial board of Distinktion, overseeing special issues and the forum exchange section. His current projects examine the logical and structural relationship between speculative fiction and speculative finance, as well as the rise of reactionary futurism in Silicon Valley.
