Research

Peter Zartsdahl is a civilian crisis management expert with eight years of operational experience in Central and Eastern Africa. He is a former officer responsible for national coordination of civil assistance in the UN Mission in South Sudan, has led multinational research teams in assessing and reporting on EU and UN missions in Mali and Somalia, and has led more than 20 short-term advisory and training teams (STAT and STTT) from 2016 to 2022 on a variety of tasks related to operational and strategic management of peace operations in Africa.

Peter holds a PhD in Global Politics, International Crisis Management, from the University of Roskilde, and is a Doctoral Fellow with the European Doctoral School on Common Security and Defence Policy in Brussels.

He is a recognised academic and published expert on whole-of-government and civil-military relations in peace operations and works mainly with field implementation of civilian-led integrated planning, management, and decision-making processes in multidimensional organisations.
