Research

I am interested in the tourism phenomenon and industry, which lies in the intersection of business studies, sociology and (human) geography. I have worked on a variety of topics related to tourism experience, management and marketing. Through my work, I have developed a number of novel conceptual approaches to the study of tourism, and suggested ways that these concepts may be pragmatically applied to solve real world problems. Empirically, my work has focused on China outbound tourism as well as tourism experiences and development in the Nordics.

Dr. Matias Thuen Jørgensen is Associate Professor at the Department of Social Sciences and Business, Roskilde University, Denmark. He received his Ph.D. in Tourism Management from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2017, where he was awarded a full fellowship through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.
