Research

I am a Postdoc at the Transregional South-South Security Cooperation. Prior to joining Roskilde, I was an Interim Professor of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin's Institute for Latin American Studies, where I am currently an Associated Researcher. 

My research focuses on security and development in Latin America with an emphasis on peace and conflict, policing, security sector reform, and border governance. I have conducted fieldwork in Central America, Colombia, the US, Israel, and Spain, and I have taught undergraduate and graduate classes in the area of International Relations, Criminology, Security Studies, and Latin American Politics. 

Between 2022 and 2025, I was a Senior Associate at the Global Security Programme at Pembroke College, University of Oxford and the Co-PI of the project 'Colombian Lessons? Assessing the Practical and Normative Consequences of Latin American South-South Security Cooperation' (funded by Gerda Henkel Foundation). Before that, I held several positions at Oxford. I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Changing Character of War Centre and a Researcher at the Global Security Programme, both at Pembroke College. I also was a Tutor at Hertford College and an Affiliate Member of the Latin American Centre, where I co-directed the project 'The Comeback of the Latin American Armed Forces' (Oxford/Berlin Research Partnership). 

I hold a PhD in political science from Freie Universität Berlin, where I worked as a Research Associate at the Collaborative Research Centre 700 – ‘Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood’, and as a Lecturer in Latin American Politics at the Institute for Latin American Studies. My work was published in journals such as Security Dialogue, European Journal of International Security, Alternatives, Geoforum, Third World Quarterly, Journal of Latin American Geography, Critical Studies on Security, Journal of Illicit Economies and Development, Globalizations, and Territory, Politics, Governance.
