Personal profile

Research

In my research, I am preoccupied with people's encounters with healthcare and how processes of involvement and patient-centered practice are practiced here. I am interested in the significance of institutionalized settings and health professional logics in relation to the inclusion of patients' own experiences of coping with illness. And how people's unequal life conditions affect the interaction between professionals and patients and have an impact on how the patient is understood and understands herself.
I have explored this in my Ph.D. thesis, which is based on an ethnographic approach and deals with patient-centeredness. Here I have shown how patient-centeredness in a particular health care practice; physiotherapy, rests on institutional and medical logics that make it difficult for patients to translate the activities going on in the consultations with the physiotherapists to the complexity of everyday life where they must cope with illness. Currently, I am exploring how men in vulnerable positions cope with type 2 diabetes and what knowledge they develop through their everyday experiences of chronic illness.
I have a health professional profile with long and broad practice experience. I am a trained physiotherapist, hold a Master’s in Education and Health Promotion, and a Ph.D. Alongside my employment at Roskilde University, I am also employed as a lecturer at University College Absalon.
