Research

My research is primary focused on the interdisciplinary field of risk assessment and regulation of chemicals and plastic pollution - including microplastics.

In my work I draw upon an array of disciplines such as toxicology, ecotoxicology, governance, stakeholder involvement, risk communication, risk perception as well as knowledge about different regulatory paradigms. Understanding of such a variety of disciplines is fundamental for conducting the interdisciplinary research I find most intriguing. My approach allow me to bridge different areas of science and to collaboration with an array of external partners such as NGOs, industry and authorities.

Two recent examples: I have recently taken initiative to gather the most prominent Danish researchers in plastic pollution in a common consortium. This consortium now constitute the Danish national center for research in marine plastic pollution (MarinePlastic). I have furthermore provided and discussed the concept for a Holistic national plastic center for the Danish Environmental Ministry. The center is now part of the government’s plastic action plan and aim at gathering the most important Danish stakeholders across disciplines and sectors in one center.
