Personal profile

Research

I study the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in the public sector. More specifically, I’ve conducted a systematic literature review on algorithmic profiling in the context of public employment services (article in press). I am currently studying specific Danish applications of profiling algorithms in job centres and unemployment insurance funds. My research interests here include the construction (socially and technically) and the implementation of statistical and AI tools and the interactions between managers, caseworkers, developers and such tools.

Theoretically, I work with AI in the public sector, street-level bureaucracy, French pragmatic sociology and Fairness, Accountability and Transparency in Machine Learning. In terms of methods, I use literature reviews, document studies, observation studies and interviews and collaborate with great colleagues on surveys and RCTs.

I’ve previously interviewed selected scholars on topics such as resilience, social classes and American politics and basic income (see https://truthout.org/authors/kristian-haug/) and published with Julian Reid, professor of international relations, in Foucault Studies (https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/foucault-studies/article/view/5253/5679).
