Personal profile

Research

My primary research interest lies within critical youth research and focuses on young people with disabilities. I am interested in how young people perceive and experience their opportunities for participation, wellbeing, and belonging in everyday life, and in relation to education and employment.

I primarily work with qualitative methods, including various forms of interviews, fieldwork, and research workshops. I have a particular interest in participatory/co-creative methods and analytical processes.

In my Ph.D. project, I follow a group of young people with dyslexia in danish lower secondary education (7.-9. grade) and explore their experiences of well-being, learning, and participation in school and everyday life. The project investigates how dyslexia is part of the lives and activities of young people, as well as their perceptions and plans for the future, education, and employment. Drawing on theoretical perspectives from critical disability studies, the project develops concepts of dyslexia as a phenomenon shaped by social and cultural factors. Additionally, the project involves the young participants in research workshops that explore their experiences of support and teaching offered in schools, aiming to inform the further development of practices for young people with dyslexia in the Danish public school system.

The project is funded by the 'Ph.d.-rådet for Uddannelsesforskning' and is conducted in a collaboration between Roskilde University and University College Absalon.
