Personal profile

Research

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at Roskilde University as part of the AlterUse research project, where I, together with talented colleagues, examine people's use of so-called alternative (news) media and what role this plays in today's media environment.

From Roskilde University, I also hold a MA in Journalism and English, as well as a PhD in media and communication research. In addition, I have worked as a journalist, English teacher, external lecturer in Journalism and research assistant on several media research projects.

In my PhD project, I examined the role that media technologies and media use play in processes, practices and experiences regarding recognition (and disrespect). My empirical focus primarily concerned young people (media users).

My overall interdisciplinary, theoretical aspiration is to combine social-philosophical theories of recognition with media and communication research, while my methodological approach prioritizes the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.

Teaching

I have extensive experience in supervising students at both bachelor's and master's levels within interdisciplinary fields, which generally relate to the role that media in a broad sense (technologically mediated communication) plays in and for social and political processes.

I have particularly supervised projects and theses that deal with the production, content and use of (journalistic) media, such as:

  • Media representation of, for example, gender, ecology, Greenland, labor market coverage, criminal cases, terror, diagnoses, the Paralympic Games.
  • The role of mediatization for, for example, press conferences, diplomacy, political journalism, local journalism.

Methodologically and analytically, I have experience with the most widespread quantitative and qualitative methods within social science and the humanities: text and sign analyses (such as discourse and framing analyses), quantitative content analysis, surveys, statistics, (focus group) interviews, media diaries and (digital) ethnography.
