Personal profile

Research

Overview
I am professor (mso) in educational studies with a focus on educational policy and comparative education. Australian by birth, I have been based in Denmark for more than 20 years, the bulk of that time at Roskilde University.

Research
My research has focused on policy issues in higher education and schooling systems more generally. One strand has concerned university governance in Denmark and more broadly in Europe; another has concerned school reform in the global south (primarily Nepal, India and the west of China). My work has included policy analysis and ethnography. In recent years, I have been especially occupied with method issues in education, exploring performative strategies for presenting experiences of schooling. I served as president of the Comparative Education Society in Europe (CESE) from 2016-2022.

Teaching
I served as head of studies of the University’s Global Humanities bachelor program between 2018-2024. My teaching interests are centred upon education, education reform and youth subjectivities. Additionally, I have an interest in exploring different traditions of knowledge creation, especially southern epistemologies and performative methological strategies.
