Research
Bjørn Thomassen is Professor in Global Political Sociology at the Department of Social Sciences and Business. He teaches within the programs of Socialvidenskab and Global Studies. Bjørn works broadly across the social and political sciences with a focus on global political anthropology and sociology. Research areas and interests include urban studies, cultural and political dimensions of globalisation, nationalism, religion, identity & memory politics, revolutions. Regions of specialization: Italy, Southern Europe, the Mediterranean area, Europe.
Bjørn teaches a variety of courses related to his research interests. He is coordinator of Sociology at the social science bachelor program at RUC, where he also teaches.
Bjørn's primary research group is Global Political Sociology, of which he is co-founder.
