Personal profile
Research
My primary research interests are children's everyday lives, children's well-being, childhood and ECEC. I am especially interessted in how the conditions of children's everyday lives and well-being are reproduced and/or transformed in institutional settings.
Critiquing the interactions between the discourse of play and learning, and the reductionistic conceptualizations of children's language development, my PhD is centered around the emergence of children's diverse types of play and children's multimodal langauge, from the children's own perspectives.
From the position of the philosophy of science that is Critical Realism, I am interested in developing a theory that explain how children's diverse types of play affect the emergence of children's multimodal language, in Danish daycares. To achieve this goal I utilize a modified version of Grounded Theory as a methodological frame.
In my PhD I predominantly utilize qualitative methods, in the form of video-ethnography and interviews. Furthermore, I complement the processes of coding and analysis during Grounded Theory, with multimodal video-analysis, so that I might conceptualize how different modalities (social semiotic ressources) emerge during children's play.
