Research

I am an Associate Professor of Pedagogy and Education and Head of the Danish Centre for Research in Early Childhood Education and Care. My research focuses on everyday life in public welfare institutions for both employees and users, in recent years with a special focus on the day care settings. I instigate how political agendas become important in everyday life for understandings and the practice of professionalism and for children's and employees' opportunities for democratic influence. I have published a number of publications on "the unnoticed pedagogical professionalism", educators' work with children's friendships and relationships, children's play and language use in interaction with each other and how to develop a child-sensitive language pedagogy. In my research, I often combine ethnographic fieldwork with different forms of action research. Several research projects are carried out in close collaboration with practice.

Teaching

I teach primarily in the graduate school and have supervised PhD projects in the health sector, primary and lower secondary school, early childhood education, the pedagogical education and the social and health educations. At the graduate school, I also carry out a number of courses with a focus on ethnographic field work, everyday life theory and visual methods. In the master's and bachelor's program, I supervise student projects and teach courses in qualitative methods. I have for many years been the study director of the Master in Education and Learning, and also completed a number of continuing and further education activities for welfare professionals.
