Personal profile

My primary research field is memory and uses of pasts. In my research I'm preoccupied with present pasts in memory cultures - how people commemorate and engage with pasts and in what different ways they do so.

I have worked with memory and historymaking practices in relation to World War II reenactment, living history in open-air museums and Women's Liberation movement of the 1970s.

I have also worked with cultural history. Mainly labour history and gender history in the 20th century.

In my current research I'm collaborating with Museums of Elsinore in the project Voices from the shipyards that focuses on former shipyard employees' memory work and museum communication of personal memory work.

I often teach topics related to memory conflicts, historical continuity and change, theory and methods in cultural history/cultural studies, historical consciousness, history communication, historical museums, gender, body, sexuality and human-nature relations.

Much of my teaching takes place in an international environment. Mainly in Roskilde University's program Global Humanities but I have also taken part in developing a transnational history online course and published teaching material in relation to this with partners from educational institutions from all over the Baltic Sea Region.
