Research

My specialty is to find simple patterns to help us understand complex biological systems. My most important tools are NMR spectroscopy, which provides information on almost every atom in a molecule or a mixture of molecules, and multivariate analysis, which is needed to make sense of this complex information.

I have a unique combination of experiences with different types of biological NMR and other measurements: Biophysical chemistryand structural biology, including structural and dynamic characterization of proteins and their interactions. A special interest is to use NMR and other biophysical methods to understand protein aggregation, in order to get increased understanding of neurodegenerative disorders. Metabolomics, a method to characterize the complex (bio-) chemical trajectory of any biological or other process. Special interests here areDrosophilamodels for genetic and environmental factors and for human disease and metabolite responses for process control in biotechnology. I am very interested in how NMR metabolomics can be used now and in the future.
