Organisation profile

Roskilde School of Governance (RSG) aims to promote state-of-the-art research on public policy and governance. It seeks to enhance the capacity of academic scholars, students and practitioners to tackle the growing number of wicked and unruly problems in our increasingly complex, multi-layered and globalized societies by means of creating political processes, collaborative arenas and organizational designs that promote effective and democratic governance and facilitate public innovation.

Core research questions include:

  • How can elected politicians and public managers lead and govern collaborative governance processes in networks and partnerships?
  • How is it possible to boost innovation in the public sector through co-creation with citizens and relevant stakeholders?
  • How are new forms of governance clashing with established forms of governance and how can public and private actors cope with these conflicts?
  • How are public policies formulated, implemented, and evaluated in a multi-level governance system?
  • How can new forms of citizen engagement help to reinvigorate our democracy and enhance the production of public value outcomes?

RSG aspires to advance research excellence, top-rate education and engaged policy-advice. It seeks to develop theoretical and empirical insights about new forms of governance and policy making that cut across different scales, levels, sectors and organizational boundaries. The insights are used to help researchers and students to map, conceptualize and understand complex governance processes, and practitioners to resolve classical governance dilemmas as well as new challenges through the skillful selection and application of old and new governance tools.
