Speaking beyond Orientalism.

Description

With the most recent genocidal attempts against Palestinian people, accompanied with layers of orientalism that underscore the vilification of their struggle for freedom, we again see technologies of war in action. Such technologies require that elites engage in suppressing knowledge and practices born out of struggles for freedom, and instead feed into interpersonal, institutional and structural ignorance. That is what we once again see in the dominant media landscape. Edward Said called these practices as lazy journalism.
With this film screening, we return to Edward Said’s analyses of and contribution to the ‘uncovering’ of the question of Palestine. We ‘cut the lazy crap’ and provide some food for thought for a necessary and seriously engaged common reflection about Orientalism, representation, and the politics of solidarity with the Palestinian struggle.
Edward Wadie Said (1 November 1935 – 24 September 2003) was a Palestinian American academic,Born in Mandatory Palestine. A literary critic and political activist. A professor of literature at Columbia University he was among the founders of postcolonial studies.
