Digital City, Smart City and Beyond

Activity: Talk or presentationLecture and oral contribution

Description

Starting around the year 2000 in Europe, America, and Asia, citizens and universities spearheaded research and practical applications of digital cities and community networks. From 2010 onwards, government bodies and corporations have been driving the practical implementation of smart cities. This presentation offers an overview of these movements, delving into their technological underpinnings and future outlook. Digital cities primarily focused on VR to foster community formation among citizens. In contrast, smart cities centered on sensor technology, aiming to enhance urban infrastructure. It's easy to assume that the initiatives of digital cities have been replaced by those of smart cities, but this is not the case. With advancements in technologies like VR, AR, and sensors, the two movements are now converging, shaping the infrastructure of urban life.
