This project trying to show how different societal challenges manifest themselves in the social reality of Danish gymnasium students. To do so, this project has made qualitative, open-ended interviews with gymnasium students, from three different gymnasiums. Furthermore, two politicians have been interviewed, based on the analysis made of the students’ answers, these were made in order to show if the social reality of the student correlated what that of the politicians. The project has been structured around the interpretivist approach and has been using the abductive method. The theories used in the project are Ove K. Pedersen’s competition state theory, Hartmut Rosa’s acceleration and alienation theory and Axel Honneth’s recognition theory – these theories have been utilized to shed some light of the different aspect of the students’ lives. The project has used content analysis, where the theories have been operationalized in order to do the analysis. The project concluded that the interviewed students were largely affect by the aspect situated in the competition state theory, and they were having difficulties in dealing with these aspects, one of the interviewed politicians saw the same problematics the students did, the other politician did not perceive the society as the students did.
