This project investigates the benefits of yoga, experienced through young marihuana addicts. It asks the question, how the experience of practising yoga for seven weeks can help the young addicts by breaking their everyday life-issues. By using critical psychology and phenomenology, the projects seeks to analyse and discuss the statements of the young addicts. Furthermore, to elaborate on the term addiction it uses the theory of Bruce K. Alexander and for a thorough explanation of the term yoga, Klaus B. Bærentsen and B.K.S. Iyengar is reviewed. The project concludes that yoga can be used as an emancipatorical strategy for the addicts to cope with their everyday-life issues as their addiction, according to Alexander, partially is caused by a dislocation from our modern and stressful free-market society . Nevertheless, to avoid yoga as being seen as just another “quick-fix”, a subsitute for drugs, we emphasize that yoga has to be practised regularly - a seven week-course can only be used as an introduction or appetizer to a different and sober lifestyle.
