This project concerns how younger doctors experience the strains in their working conditions. The aim is to attain an understanding of the organizational quality of younger doctors’ work in Danish public hospitals. To examine the experiences of younger doctors’, two focus group interviews were conducted, focusing on discussion of the strains that concern them the most. These interviews were conducted at two different departments at Herlev Hospital, with the purpose of understanding, which strains are most important and what makes them bothersome. Theoretically, the organizational quality of the work is understood in a contextual view to understand how the individuals understand the strains. This focuses on the habitus, as described by Pierre Bourdieu. Furthermore, a relativistic view is applied to understand the foundations of the field and how the actors are connected as understood through the interconnectional model by Nielsen & Ry (2002). The relationships between actors in the field is theorized with Bourdieus capitals. . The project concludes that younger doctors experience strains, primarily concerning the planning of on call work, interruptions during in call work, forced time waste, and lack of collegial and managerial support. This has the practical consequences, that the younger doctors experience time pressure, work pressure, stress, powerlessness, confusion and forgetfulness. In the end, the strains entail that the working conditions bring a waste of time to the doctors, whom therefore cannot work as efficiently as they would like. As the Danish state and management of the hospitals have the position of making the chances in working conditions, younger doctors need to be able to speak about strains of the organizational quality. A change in the organizational culture might bring the younger doctors to let the dominant actors know when they are strained.
