In this project we have examined the stigmatization of inhabitants in the district of Tingbjerg based on the state’s official list of ghettos. The examination takes its theoretical standpoint from the sociological theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Loïc Wacquant. The main point of focus is therefore placed upon Loïc Wacquants theory of territorial stigmatization, through which we will examine effects of stigmatization and symbolic violence on the inhabitants. We have analyzed different categories, strategies and positions in relation to territorial stigmatization through interviews and readings of policy reports. We will use interviews with inhabitants to describe their social position and thereby making it possible to examine their volume of capital and their habitus. We will interpret the strategies and positions of the inhabitants in relation to the categories figuring on the state’s official list of ghettos. The project concludes that the most important strategies to reject territorial stigmatization are often deeply rooted in social housing projects.
