Vejen til privatskolen: The Rise of Private Schools

The choice of private schools is a growing trend in Denmark. We have highlighted some of the occurring inequalities happening in connection with this tendency. We have found that there is much larger proportion of pupils in Nørrebro that chooses to attend private school rather than public school and based on this, we have investigated some of the inequalities that are associated with this statistic. It turns out that the economic inequality overall in Nørrebro is not so apparent, but in private schools, there is a polarization where both resource-rich and resource-poor pupils choose private schools. In relation to this, we have investigated whether the standards and terms of the grade point average (GPA) in schools are affected by the difference in inequality of the pupils and the result showed that all private schools in Nørrebro have, on average, higher GPAs compared to the public schools. The results therefore show that there is no correlation between the pupils' financial background or their academic results. Furthermore, there is inequality from various factors in private schools, but that inequality is different from school to school.
