The project scrutinizes the translations taking place in Toledo and Sicily during the 12th century. It investigates the attitudes towards knowledge as seen from the perspective of Islam as well as Christianity. It goes into the life and work of Roger Bacon and Hermann of Carinthia, investigating the importance of their work, Hermann being a translator and Roger Bacon works with the translations a hundred years later. His work is also used to illuminate the Christian relationship with the newly translated texts. In the end, the project tries to illuminate a period that has had great importance for the future development of Europe, and yet seems poorly understood.
